Anglesey - Character Classes

Clerics in Anglesey: Clerics are to follow the pantheon of Gods in Anglesey. Player characters have the same advantages and duties as NPC clerics (link to section on Clerics). Players may choose to use an archetype from 5e rules. The archetype can be followed if: 1. there is a corresponding set of God/Goddess for it, 2. the player utilizes neither necromancy or mind control spells (see History of Anglesey for reasons). Additional spells, above the 5e rule that limits the number of spells available to a cleric character, are granted in order for the character to fulfill his/her duties. For example, spells necessary for a cleric to conduct "Ceremonies (also on "Clerics page"). In addition, the DM may grant additional spells in order to have the player character fulfill both sides of their domain (e.g. both war and peace).

Fighters, Rangers, Paladins, and Barbarians in Anglesey: Fighters follow the 5e rules. Rangers also follow the 5e rules and are worshipers of the God of the Wild with some allegiance to the Goddess of the Fields. They also have the Cantrip - Diagnose - but only for wild creatures. As a campaign note, a Ranger character is not the same as a member of the Queen's Own Rangers. The Queen's Own Rangers are specially selected by the Queen and her advisers and are built as 5e Eldritch Knights. It is their job to be able to search the land for magic and magical knowledge. Where this knowledge is linked to evil; they are to attempt to destroy it. They are a small elite group. The King's Own are a small, elite group as well. They are 5e "Fighter - Battle Master" with skills as combat/civil engineers. It is their job to assess new areas for resources, defenses, etc. If a fighter wishes to take the "Paladin" route; he can prove himself worthy of service to the God of Justice and the Goddess of Mercy. Characters would enter as 1st level fighters, prove themselves; and then be offered the opportunity to be a paladin.

Rogue class: Rogues, with one exception, are not a character class available in Anglesey. The problem, for Rouges, is the development of the Truth Rod for the Priests of Justice and Mercy. The Truth Rod makes it impossible for anyone to lie while holding it (the Rod literally slips out of a lying person's hands). Combine the Rod with a population that is all trained in the military, a well organized court system, and a punishment system augmented by magic; it's difficult for a self-respecting thief to have a chance in Anglesey. The final straw is the Thief Catcher Class. Thief Catchers are born into the class and then trained. They have the ability to follow evil the same way a Ranger can follow tracks through the forest. They are trained to hunt down and apprehend thieves. Thus, for an Anglesey born person or for anyone spending time in Anglesey, the only safe option in the Rogue Class is Thief Catcher (follow the link for information on this class).
Bard class: Anglesey bards follow more of the Celtic model of bard and have their own distinctive character class and magic abilities. Bards are revered throughout Anglesey and most of the surrounding realms. They are welcome into places where other classes of people would be foolish to wander into.. The most dramatic difference is with Bard Magic (see this link for more details).
