"New Kings" Military - The Militia
Mandatory Service: Both men and women are legally obligated to serve in the militia to gain citizenship (for Anglesey children upon reaching 18 years of age and for immigrants when they immigrate into Anglesey). The service period is 1 year.
Exemptions: While military service is greatly encouraged, those people who cannot or will not serve in the military may apply for an exemption from military service. The exemption must be approved by a panel of priests. If the exemption is approved, the exempted person will serve the kingdom in another capacity (health care or public works). This service will last for 1 year for physical exemptions and 18 months for people who choose not to serve in the military.
The King’s Bounty: Upon finishing their military service, each person is granted 50 acres of farmland or a city lot. To keep this grant, the grantee must make noticeable improvements within 1 year. A farmer must have erected a shelter, cleared 5 acres of land, and started improving a site for a defensible shelter. In subsequent years, the farmer must continue to clear land, maintain a woodlot, finish the defensible shelter, and produce farm goods. The allowed level is reviewed by the priests of the Lord of the Wild (Aiden) and the Lady of the Fields (Adenat). These priests may be called upon to help the farmer improve the techniques, etc. used on the farm. Part of the farmer’s service will be to improve the roads and defenses along the farmland and in the closest defense point. Note: land grants may be sold or traded (so a newly married couple may combine their grants into 1 farm of 100 acres). The obligation to ‘improve’ the land is transferred to the new owner.
Extended service: Militia soldiers may extend their service time to 2 years. Upon ending their service, their land grant is increased from 100 to 200 acres depending on amount of active service. Any militia soldier wishing to serve beyond 2 years will be encouraged to join the permanent military units.
Equipment: All equipment and necessities are granted to the militia soldiers during their time of service. At the end of his/her service, a militia soldier will leave with 1 suit of armour and up to 5 personal weapons. Every militia soldier is expected to keep his/her armour, weapons, and other equipment in perfect condition until the age of 60 when militia obligations end. At the request of the militia soldier, priests of Morgan and Morgana may extend that retirement age. At retirement, the armour and weapons must be turned in or traded to a family member who is a militia soldier. That recipient must turn in his/her own allocated equipment so he/she only has 1 set.
Militia obligations: After serving for their 1 year, militia soldiers will still be under obligation to the kingdom. Militia obligations last until retirement and are as follows:
All militia soldiers are required to make an oath of service on a Truth Rod (see God/Goddess of Justice and Mercy). The oath stipulates militia soldiers are to:
Militia soldiers are not paid for their service. If other people depend upon the militia soldier’s support (an only child supporting elderly or disabled parents), then the local priesthoods will take over that support duty during the militia soldier’s mandatory service. All needs are provided by the kingdom. Militia soldiers can enrich themselves by claiming the silver piece bounty for creatures that are a threat to the Realm. Militia groups are issued a magical rod that enables any member of the militia to shrink a creature’s head to the size of a marble. Each head is worth a silver piece. Militia soldiers are also paid a bounty for accomplishing missions and/or completing tasks. The bounty may be money or improved equipment. Finally, militia who find an area that requires clearing of threatening creatures may keep all the material they can carry in 1 trip. The exception is weapons. Militia may keep weapons that they have found but are then required to turn in their issued weapons. Likewise, militia may not sell any weapons or armour. These materials are to be turned over to the Realm.

- Weekly training for 2 to 4 hours each week. This training will be under the supervision of the local militia commander and/or priests of Morgan/Morgana. This training will be reviewed each year by a regional militia commander (full time professional soldier) and the highest ranking priest of Morgan/Morgana available. The object is to maintain fitness, training, and readiness.
- Once, each season, the militia is called out to sweep the local area for any threats and to train with larger groups.
- During an emergency, the militia can be called out for an extended period. Commanders try to avoid harvest and planting time.
All militia soldiers are required to make an oath of service on a Truth Rod (see God/Goddess of Justice and Mercy). The oath stipulates militia soldiers are to:
- Defend the realm and its citizens at all costs.
- Remember the realm is particularly blessed by the Gods. In return, the Gods expect to be honoured and the citizens to love their realm.
- Take an active role in the Realm’s defense. While orders are to be obeyed, each militia soldier is expected to use his/her initiative. Militia soldiers are expected to persevere and accomplish the mission. Militia soldiers are expected to question unlawful orders.
- Behave in a professional and disciplined manner. Each militia soldier is to set a high personal standard and do his/her best to achieve it.
- Ensure that all orders are clearly understood by all members of their team/squad/regiment.
- Regard all members of the militia as brothers and sisters who are to be fully supported.
