Ritual Magic in Anglesey for magic users
Ritual Magic:
Ritual circle – Casting time 4 to 6 minutes Range: 5` diameter circle per level of the caster Components: V, S, M (puff of air, flame – candle, etc., few drops of pure water, pebble or small clump of dirt, wooden stick, and a non-iron edged item that has not shed blood). This spell creates a relatively safe place for a magic user to work undisturbed and in a more stable environment. The Circle shields the magic user from any disturbances from outside that may endanger a delicate operation (such as Identify, Learning New Spells, etc.) Likewise, it protects those outside from anything that could go wrong inside the circle. Lastly, it helps keep the activities of the magic user private. Conducting a ritual without a Circle would be both dangerous and like setting up a beacon saying here I am and this is what I`m doing… This ritual spell creates a sphere barrier to both magical and non-magical objects and creatures. Magical forces, noise, etc. are kept within the sphere. Outside energies or creatures may force their way in. The sphere has 1d10 h.p. per level of the caster. Magic users may combine their levels for a stronger sphere. If the cooperating magic users are evenly balanced between the genders, the h.p. is doubled. The sphere glows slightly (about the same as 1 candle). While it is see through, the sphere contains energy (any light, noise, magic, etc. is dampened down to be visible for 5` per level of the magic, etc. used). The spell is cast by the magic user drawing energy from the five elements. First, the magic user draws a circle using a wooden stick (the surface must be able to be marked and hold the mark – dirt, dust, etc.). The circle is drawn clockwise until it is closed. The magic user faces the east part of the circle and blows gently at the wall of the circle while concentrating on creating a sphere of energy. A wall of energy should form on the east side. Next, the magic user lights a flame (non-magical) on the south side; again concentrating on creating a wall of energy. The process is repeated on the west wall with a few drops of water and on the north wall with a pebble or clod of dirt. Each time the magic user is to call upon that particular element for power to form the walls of the sphere. Next, the magic user goes to the center of the circle and calls upon the God and Goddess of Knowledge and Learning to intercede with The Lady. Concentrating on spirit, the magic user draws on the energy to knit the walls together and to form both a ceiling and floor to the sphere. While pulling the walls of the sphere together, the magic user slowly turns from the east and then around the rest of the circle (clockwise motion). Done properly, the sphere should now be fully formed. If a male and female magic user are both forming the circle, then the male should do the first part and the female the 2nd part. If more magic users are involved, then each one can take an element…. If the magic user needs to leave the circle, he may draw a doorway using the edged weapon – his motions must be counter-clockwise. The sphere will last as long as the magic user is using magical energy in the sphere or concentrating (unless the sphere is destroyed). The sphere should be properly dispelled by the magic user cutting the circle on the ground and then the sphere in the air with the edged weapon. If the sphere is simply abandoned without being dispelled, the magical energies could harm others and a talented magical user could read information from the remnants of the sphere for up to 1 day per level of the caster. Also, the gods would be displeased….. Note: An abandoned circle can be dispelled completely by another magic user using the same ritual as dispelling a circle but from the outside. This dispelling requires the use of a lodestone as well as the edged weapon. The lodestone will gather and disperse the magical energies. Again, the Circle cannot be under the active care of its creator (creator must be inside the sphere and either using magical energy or concentrating). Note: Only magic users should be in this Circle, others would find the experience disturbing…..
