Anglesey: Religion During the New Kings Era
Gods:
Greater God and Goddess - the Lord and Lady - Link to the full description of the rulers of the Pantheon. The Lesser Gods The lesser gods are lesser beings but have much greater influence than the Greater Gods. They can touch the world directly. Mostly, it is through priests and priestesses who receive power and spells directly from them (if worthy). Most scholars believe that these beings sometimes select very special humans and grant them extraordinary powers in return for direct service. These avatars receive their commands and powers directly from the gods. However, such a ‘blessing’ would require extraordinary devotion, service, and sacrifice in return for being the god’s hand on earth. A smaller number of scholars believe that the gods very occasionally directly use their powers on the world; but, such a direct intervention would come to the attention of the other gods and less benign powers…. Lastly, a very few scholars believe that the gods occasionally walk among the mortals in disguise. Such a venture would, it is believed, have some risk to the god but would be much less noticeable unless god-like powers were used…. Worshippers are strongly encouraged to revere both the male and female aspects though they are free to favour one aspect over the other. Thus, a priest of Morgan is also a priest of Morgana. War for war’s sake is regarded as evil. However, peace that allows evil to survive or the weak to be oppressed is equally evil….. Also, these gods are seen as having a human form and are represented as such (though they have the power to appear in whatever form they desire….). |
Worship
Citizens of Anglesey worship a very tight pantheon of Gods and Goddesses. Worship of any evil deity is both a crime and very socially unacceptable. Other deities of good alignment are tolerated, but worship of them is almost unheard of in Anglesey. Government, religion, society, and education all work together to greatly encourage the worship of the Anglesey pantheon to unify the society. As for the citizens, they rarely need to be 'encouraged'; the worship of their pantheon is just the way things are done and, after all, why mess with a great thing? Due to the history of Anglesey's ancestors, necromancy is strictly forbidden and ruthlessly rooted out. Any sort of mind control is viewed with great suspicion. The Gods are tightly involved with all aspects of Anglesey and its people and the entire pantheon works together to ensure the success of the people. After all, as Anglesey grows in power, so do its Gods.... Cleric Powers and Duties (link to full description) Clerics of this Pantheon are expected to serve both the God and the Goddess of their area of concern.
