Lord of Health (Anghus) and Lady of Healing (Taran)

Picture
Picture
Appearance: Anghus often appears as a very athletic nude man with antlers. In human guise, he appears as a young athlete who glories in tests of speed, endurance, and strength.  In combat, he has no pattern; it depends on what attribute he wishes to show off at the time: strength and endurance - greatsword and heavy armour or speed – a rapier or other finesse weapon and no armour...  Anghus and his followers strive for bodily excellence and it can manifest itself as a self-competition for self-improvement or as a must win competition where the pride of even the God can be exploited to make him do foolish things….  Taran is usually successful in persuading Anghus out of the more foolish challenges, but if she is not around at the time….  Taran’s appearance depends upon the situation.  Where her healing arts are not needed, she appears as a beautiful woman who radiates healthiness.  She may also been seen as a calm and capable middle aged midwife or an extremely old woman wise woman/herbalist who radiates age and competence.  In all cases, Taran has long, luxurious hair, unblemished skin, and an athletic build.

Symbols: (as shown) a running man and a mortar and pestle.

Areas of Concern:  Physical health and healing.

Duties of the Priesthood:
These clerics are concerned with physical health and healing.

Thus, clerics of health and healing are expected to:

 1.    Educate and promote a healthy lifestyle.  Priests typically set up competitions and access to training and equipment that promotes fitness and love of sport.
2.    Ensure that resources are available to all citizens for healthy eating.
3.    Provide healing and care to all that need it. In return, an offering is made to the temple/order that fits the person’s resources (can be money, food, time….).
4.    Train non-priest healers in first aid, herbalism, diet, etc. to try to ensure access to healing for all the people. Monitor those people who provide healing/health services.
5.     Ensure rules are followed for proper hygiene (baths are available, clean water, …..).

Powers:
1. Clerics can cast “Diagnose” once/per caster level at will. Requires a long rest to restore the ability (see below).
2. Can cast “Detect Poison and Disease” once per day.
3. Can cast a bonus healing spell of caster’s choice and level once per day.

Diagnose 1st level  Casting time: 1 action.  Range: Touch.  Components: None.   Duration: 1 turn.      You may cast this spell to find what is ailing/affecting one human.  At first level, a priest should be able to tell if it is sickness, poison, magic, or environment.  As the priest gains in level, the information becomes more specific.  By 3rd level, common ailments, etc. can be identified.  By 5th level, the information will include if there is a readily available antidote/treatment.  By 9th level, unfamiliar substances/effects can be identified along with a possible treatment.  If the effect is intentional magic (result of a cast spell, effect of a magical item…. Then Diagnose will be a contest of the Priest’s casting modifier, etc. versus the other caster’s ability.
